Abstract

A device that quickly transfers personnel from the embarkation deck of a vessel to a floating lifeboat raft. It provides a safe passage from the embarkation point to the floating platform or lifeboat raft for life jacket wearers of various ages, sizes, and physical conditions. It serves as the best connection for crew or passengers escaping from a large ship to a lifeboat raft at sea, functioning as an auxiliary escape device.

Definition:

A device for quickly transferring personnel from the embarkation deck of a ship to a floating lifeboat raft. It provides a safe passage from the embarkation point to the floating platform or lifeboat raft for wearers of life jackets of various ages, sizes, and physical conditions. It is the best connection for crew or passengers escaping from a large ship to a lifeboat raft at sea and serves as an auxiliary escape device.

Types:

Type 1 - Slide-type evacuation system

Types: (1) Single slide evacuation system (2) Double slide evacuation system

Structure: Mainly composed of inflatable slides and raft boarding platform sections.

Application: In an emergency, only one crew member is needed to operate the entire evacuation system on the deck, allowing the slide and water surface boarding platform to form successively. Passengers can slide from the deck down the slide to the water surface boarding platform, and then enter the inflatable liferaft beside the platform to evacuate the distressed ship.

Type 2: Zigzag evacuation system

Structure: Uses twisted materials as joints within a vertical tube to control sliding speed.

Application: The activation method is the same as the slide type, but passengers evacuate not using the slide but instead descend vertically in sections using a trough seat. Passengers in the trough seat can control their descent speed, thus reducing psychological fear and allowing them to safely reach the boarding platform.

Type 3: Spiral evacuation system

Application:

Similar to the zigzag evacuation system, but uses a spiral slide method within a vertical tube to control sliding speed.

Storage:

(1) Should be arranged in a position that can safely land, away from the propeller and the curved overhanging parts of the hull, and should allow the sea evacuation system to drop straight down from the ship's side. The storage location should have clear markings, as shown in the diagram.

(2) There should be no openings on the ship's side between the boarding station of the sea evacuation system and the lightest load waterline, and protective systems should be in place to prevent any protrusions from affecting it.

(3) The storage of each sea evacuation system should ensure that its passage or platform, or its storage or operating device does not obstruct the operation of any other lifesaving equipment at any other landing station.

(4) The storage of the sea evacuation system should not hinder the operation of any other lifesaving equipment and should be protected from damage by large waves.

Precautions:

(1) All passengers should gather at the boarding point near the lifeboat slide under the guidance of the crew, wear life jackets, and slide down in order, avoiding multiple people sliding into the slide at the same time to prevent dangerous accidents.

(2) Before entering the slide, shoes should be removed to prevent them from falling and affecting those sliding down behind, or stepping on those in front.

(3) While sliding down, the correct posture should be taken according to the crew's instructions to prevent spraining arms and thighs.

(4) After sliding to the platform below, passengers should move quickly to the sides and not interfere with the evacuation of other passengers.

(5) Quickly board the liferaft under the guidance of the crew.
